The Boomer-Millennial Divide: The Next Generation of Cool

What do you think Gen Y will be like 10, 15 or 20 years from now? Will we pay attention to things like stewardship?  Will we appreciate that the next generation will be “better” no matter what?

Food for thought: Gen Y might not suffer as much generational tension in relationship to newer generations. Yet, isn’t tension beneficial so that we can offset the differences (and understand the advantages)?

Adults always find a reason to hate people that are 20 years old. I don’t know why it is. Clearly every generation gets better. Every generation gets healthier, smarter, more sophisticated, and that’s always been true. Twenty year olds are just better than us. Old people just can’t seem to get it through their heads that things are getting better and that’s wonderful.

– Penn Jillette, in an interview with Ben Reeves of Game Informer Magazine

If we’re not raising new generations to do better than we’ve done in stewardship, we might as well give up.

– Jane Goodall, in an interview with Jon Stewart of the Daily Show about her Roots & Shoots program

One day I’ll be 40, 50 and the universe willing, even older than that. That doesn’t stop me, however, from loving it when others appreciate the next generation’s youth…and absolute coolness.
