To Be Consistent, You Have to Be Fearless

My consistency leaves much to be desired.

Side Note: Yes,  that can be seen as a cop out, complain here.

Starting is only the beginning…

Revving up the 10 minutes series of my blog hasn’t worked out too well. I don’t want to say it’s dead in the water because it just too soon to say something is dead when you’ve only done it twice.

I imagine such ventures are like sex, supposedly getting better with time.

Whatever.

Secondly, I’ve been sheepishly asking fellow bloggers to guest post. We already know the answer to that query. I wouldn’t say that absolutely no one wants to guest post for me, but I’m thinking blogging karma is biting me in the ass.

Back Story: I wrote a guest post for a fellow blogger several weeks ago. It only ended up back here. My thoughts: is it really fair to tell someone you want them guest post for you, then totally ignore them when they do it? I think not. Perhaps, however, the blogging karma comes from taking 2 months to write the guest post in question.

More than anything – it’s my fault. I haven’t allowed myself to be consistently persistent or interested in the pursuits I carry out. Silly things like forgetfulness or not wanting to be pest serve as convenient excuses.

My dumbest excuse? Not being organized. But, the real excuse? Fear.

Getting Organized is Such BS…

My iPhone has a deliciously super cool calendar app, Google calendar,  Toodledo account, dry erase board, three email accounts, two journals (one for on-the-go scribbling and one for more extensive note taking) and one over thinking brain.

Yet, with all of this, I am as consistent as Family Guy episode plots.

Therefore, I was beginning to think I wasn’t well organized. I incorporated stuff that would allow me to record my thoughts no matter when (or where).

That didn’t turn out so hot either.

The results? Scattered note pages, voice memos and overdue tasks beeping like mad in my phone. You’d think I was doing archaeological research on the Incas instead of just running a blog.

Keeping yourself steady wins the race…

Consistency requires absolutes. I hate absolutes because they seethe with a finite-ness that drives me batty. When things are definite, a well-known finality is hard to bargain with. Life has programmed me to think bargaining with consistency is a loser’s game.

So, being consistent with goals and tasks shouldn’t require that you remind yourself to do stuff, be organized, make lists, create three calendars and so on.

Chances are, you already know what you should be doing. Whether you are doing it now, in the next two hours or tomorrow.

Hesitancy and fear preclude getting to the good of your work. You can’t become a recluse when trying to move forward to whatever’s next.

Fearlessness about the next thing is key to retaining consistency and reliability – even resiliance.  When this happens, you’ll feel like you’re in a lot less trouble with the world.
