Being Thankful is Easy, Recognizing When to Be So is Harder

When you are feeling safe

Sometimes, people take it for granted when they are feeling safe – not just physically, but mentally and spiritually as well.

Being safe or unsafe is not necessarily about being boringly staid…or outside of some predetermined comfort zone.

It’s about being content and satisfied that you are where you are supposed to be.

When you are feeling happy and loved

The pleasures of happiness and love are always remembered in the past, but hardly ever in the present.

Be presently thankful in the moment when you are surrounded by those who generate such wonderful feelings.

Taking into account that you are cherished (and that you cherish others) is one of the anchoring roots of support and stability.

Bonds like that can never become overrated or out of style.

When you accomplished something important to you

Goals represent life’s ambitions. If you have ambitions, you are fully invested in what’s going on around you. And, when you are engaged in the world, you are no longer limited to just guessing what may come next.

You’ll actually come to have even better expectations of yourself.

When you feel determined

Some people have given up on their dreams. They’ve allowed past failures to define future pursuits. Instead of being ready for a brand new opportunity, these people find ways to cling to the unsatisfactory status quo.

They’ve forgotten what it’s like to have fire in their spirit. If you wake up with a renewed resolve, be thankful that you can feel that readiness in your gut.

Some people have let their inner flame die out.

When you have a break

Do not squander your time, least of all your free time. It always seems that there is time to be busy, but there is never time to rest.

So, if you are unemployed, on vacation or taking a five minute breather – be thankful you’ve gotten the chance to have “time space.” Those free moments (or days or months) should be time well spent, joyful, and all those other adjectives that incite positive experiences.

You may come to understand that there is just as much to do in a break as there is to do in a day filled to the brim with busy-ness.
