I discovered my alter ego while listening to a Lupe Fiasco song.
Quickly wondering how many people indulge their alter egos – one has to ask , “How does one go about it?”
Do you pursue it though blogging… or photography? With the endless melange of ways to revamp your digital image (real or imagined) via social media, I am wondering about the opportunities one takes to indulge the other, truer parts of themselves.
I am not talking about blogosphere/webosphere authenticity or transparency – I am talking about the other parts of you that add just as much texture, no matter how small or hidden. These personas are just as powerful, (if not even more so) because they are highly concentrated and adeptly focused.
In other words, how can social media advocates accommodate these special facets? Is it best to split them up or find (sometimes, incongruous) ways to link them together?
The conversations of the day harp on branding and concentrating your image – no pulp, all juice – in the social media smorgasbord. These sound bites are beginning to sound one-dimensional because they don’t encourage creativity.
And, isn’t that the point?
Therefore, our intellectual wardrobes are dressed up in suits with no exciting pieces to spice up the branded monotony.
I blundered into this idea while thinking of ways to up the ante on TWS. I am questioning social media’s ability to be a forgiving and accessible 3rd dimension.
The true difference between an alter ego and “just pretend” is that the former is truly part of your inner persona while the latter is a choice of impractical absurdity – a joke in its purest form.
So, let’s pretend for real. I am looking for ways to engage the other, just-as-real parts of me which are just as multi-faceted as the “Writerbabe” persona.
When I asked the F (who’s morphed from the BF) what he thinks my alter egos are, he answers, “A geek and a pornstar.”
Don’t ask.
