What is Your 3rd Necessity?

Today I am going to admit to more than a bad case of writer’s block.

I’m going to admit my 3rd necessity.

It’s the thing (or things) that stabilize your life (outside of food (1) and shelter (2)).

Side Note: Theoretically, one could say that clothing is an obvious (third) necessity. Let’s be daring and say, for only today, I’m bohemian. You don’t need clothes with the exception of heavy coats for Chicagoland winters.

The 3rd necessity is rapidly becoming a much sought after commodity.

Such necessities don’t have to be any thing per se, but a collection of experiences or activities that give pleasure. And, while pleasure doesn’t have to be 3rd necessity, I would hope for everyone that it is a necessity, nonetheless.

Things that have given me pleasure are wide and far ranging.  Therefore, I’m thirsty for the pleasure of creating new ideas. When you call yourself a writer, you have little allowance for your sponge of a brain to harden into a rock.

Passion cannot be the sole source of inspiration. Yet, I do think it can be a major contributor for your own pleasure.

My third necessities have been wavering between issues of Business Week, new technology, vanilla ice cream sandwiches and the sound of new email chimes.

Next, cotton dresses, curly hair, a great styling gel and visiting friends. Or, satin pillow cases, a crisp bottle of Pinot Grigio with Dill Havarti and crackers.

Take your pick. Or, make one up.
